For the last 2 years, I have been complaining about Sony’s ridiculous decision, to not include 50mbps 4:2:2 recording on the PMW-320 and PMW-350. I understand why they do it, they want you to buy a more expensive camera, in this case, the PMW-500. A recent shoot for Littlewoods with Colleen Rooney. We spent an afternoon shooting some videos of Colleen talking about her latest range of clothes. I shot this on my Sony PMW-320 XDCAM HD which is a perfect camera for this type of online video production. Edit and finishing was completed by Red Frog in Manchester.
Latest video shot for Very.co.uk, with Red Frog. Shot on the Sony PMW-320, which performed fabulously shooting with the very low lighting available at the photoshoot. The use of a shoulder mount broadcast style camera for these kinds of shoots is great as it allows stable handheld operation, together with an incredibly versatile zoom range. These new Sony XDCAM EX cameras perform very well for there price range and are very well suited to web based production.
I am now running Da Vinci Resolve on my MacBook Pro. This is a fantastic development and allows me to create looks on location and show clients how the finished product could look. The new software versions of Resolve are really great, especially the ability to take it mobile and work with the footage there and then.
I have been testing recently with Technicolor’s CineStyle Profile for the Canon 5D Mk 2 and I have been very impressed by the images I have seen. The profile was developed in conjunction with Canon, in order to allow a Log style shooting profile for Video on the 5D.
